Even the great Galileo wrote medical treatise on how the women of Europe could have grit for whitening the teeth and a recipe for auburn hair.

Nowadays, even extremely sound-minded women clutch their Chi ceramic irons to their bosoms like a holy mandate.

I have two friends w/ long luscious chestnut hair. They both flat iron their hair like their lives depends upon it. They have both been doing this since jr high school and are now college seniors. Either can explain why they continue the daily struggle to make their hair stick-straight at such a high cost in products, time and damage to their hair.

On days that one of them sleeps in late, I might meet her for lunch and she always exclaims shamfully ';My hair is awful today! It鈥檚 terrible! I hate it.';

My question always is what is wrong with those lovely God-given face-framing curls, ringlets and waves in the first place. Why do girls/women with nice wavy hair flat-iron or straighten it like a religion?
I gave up ironing my hair years ago. It's just what the media likes these days. I love my hair and I stand out in the crowd. We tend to get brain washed into thinking we have to be like everyone else and a majority of people are not blessed with the curls and waves. Therefore, (and I was one of the blind followers for a long time) it makes sense that so many girls try to hide their beautiful locks in favor of blending in. Once they get self-esteem, they usually stop. I know I did and I'll never go back. Why do girls/women with nice wavy hair flat-iron or straighten it like a religion?
Not all women/girls do so.

I agree with you--waves and curls are so pretty.

I love my waves.

Good luck
It's because we want what we do not have, if my hair is straight I want curly hair, if it is curly I want straight hair. Straight hair is really ';in'; right now as well.
I think sometimes people just get bored with seeing the same thing in the mirror every day, or maybe they find a style that they think makes them look good, so they just stick with it. Sometimes it's difficult to see yourself for how you naturally are and really appreciate it. Even I tend to think I look like a monster without a bit of makeup here and there, when in the past I thought makeup was pointless and never wore any. I think people just fall into a routine of doing things and stay that way.
they don't see what you see and in there opinion they think they are hidious unless they meet their self percieved idea of beauty
Well, I have wavy hair but sometimes I like having the sleek look of straight hair. I had pin straight hair my whole life then about 3 years ago my hair started getting wavy--I don't know why. Actually it's crazy wavy right now because it's humid. I like wavy sometimes because I don't have to do it to get ready to go somewhere--a little styling product, air dry and go. I like my hair both ways.
What a strange trend. I didn't even know that women did that until you

mentioned it. There are of course women with naturally straight hair that

use curling irons to make their hair wavy. Evidently, some women innately

prefer straight hair, and others innately prefer wavy hair.

Wavy hair is characterized by the abstract property of fineness, such

that people with a temperament of fineness prefer it, and people with a

temperament of crudeness detest it.Pinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12362527241024548829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5469353385056160477.post-81650542782398100992010-08-21T01:11:00.002-07:002010-08-21T01:11:40.630-07:00How do i keep my bob hairstyle looking good?I have a bob hairstyle. I recommend you ';Tresseme Heat Tamer Protective Spray';. Many people use it, including me, and it works pretty good. It also helps your hair keep its style a little. Here is a picture of the heat spray just in case:

http://www.lovelyish.com/700530624/trese鈥?/a>

2: A flat iron is mainly to straighten your hair. It can also curl your hair too at the same time. A flat iron can make many style like crimping it or making your hair wavy. A curling iron is just to make your hair curly, in my opinion, the curls come out better looking than when using the flat iron. If you want to buy a flat iron, I recommend you a chi straightener. I don't really know much about curling irons since I don't curl my hair that much since it takes a long time for me.

3: It really depends, but 2-3 minutes would be great.

Just to warn you, since you said you hair is thick a dry, if you keep using these irons, it can make your hair crazy dry. You'll have A LOT of split ends. I have the same type of hair like you, and I straighten my hair everyday for a year. Gosh, my hair was a monster after that. Especially since I have thick hair, it's poofy and hot, because of summer. So just warning you, it's a lot of hair caring. I have naturally straight, blonde hair. It's medium thick/thin. I want to be able to curl it with a flat iron or with a curling iron. But the problem is, my hair is too silky, so no matter how much i try (even with hair spray) my hair will not curl. School starts in a week and i want my hair to look good. I would like for it to look kinda similar to Jenny Garth's hair on What I Like About You (just to give you an idea.) Any suggestions with how I should curl it? When I use hot rollers or sponge rollers over night it usually gives me too much of a curl. I want it to be a loose curl. Help! And no rude answers pleaaase!! Thankkks!!Help me with my straight hair that won't curl!
ummm my hair is really hard to curl but it works with a curling iron....ummm try putting your hair in about 6 braids and then use a flat iron and flatten it on the braids...it makes it wavy so im not sure that it will be exactly what your looking for but it might help..try it out before the first day of school so that if it loooks bad it doesnt matterHelp me with my straight hair that won't curl!
ever thought about perming it? just have the loose wave style, and please bring a photo of the hair style. sometimes some stylists get carried away
PRODUCT! you need some products to put in your hair to help you hair curl easier and stay that way. try getting a curl activating spray at a beauty store. ask the people who work there, theyll know what to get for you. for loose curls, id reccomend using a 1.4 inch curling iron. its perfect for curls that are loose and wavy.
It sounds really gross, but hair holds style better when it's dirty, so try waiting a day or two (depending on how quickly your hair gets gross, if you have straight hair, you should probably just wait a day) after washing it and then try and curl it. I have naturally curly hair and to get it straight (which is probably just as hard as you trying to curl your hair) I have to wash it at night and straighten it in the morning. Also, make sure the curling iron you're using is small enough (barrel curls normally fall out in hair like yours).Pinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12362527241024548829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5469353385056160477.post-65753386583038382742010-08-21T01:10:00.001-07:002010-08-21T01:10:19.654-07:00How to I style my shoulder length hair?OK, here is the scoop: I have one-length hair just past my shoulders. Enuf about me-

We have finally evolved beyond the oressing comb- that's a last resort nowadays.... I use a Chi iron and a Fhi (that is also made by Chi- but sold in Chinese Shops). If u don't sweat alot or live in a humid area, it can last about a week and a half, maybe 2 (wrap ur hair at night).

You could also try a Babybliss flat iron- it's a little cheaper than the other irons I mentioned (which are around 90.00 and higher).

Whatever Iron u decide on- be prepared to invest some money, and make sure it has ceramic plates. (if it's not ceramic, the coating on the plaates will eventually chip and snag on ur hair- causing breakage) Also, make sure u get some sort of thermal styling/ heat protectant. My favorites are by Mizani- it is a serum so it ads lots of shine and u don't need 2 use alot. You could also use the serum by Chi, or the protectant by SleekLook (it's in an orange bottle, by Matrix)
Honestly, if you have natural hair, I don't think a flat iron will work good for you. I think your best bet would be to use a hot iron comb. Unless you have experience using them, I recommend seeing a professional to have them straighten your hair. The results will last much longer as well.Pinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12362527241024548829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5469353385056160477.post-83128754810230886992010-08-21T01:09:00.002-07:002010-08-21T01:09:31.489-07:00Best way to get curly hair with flat iron?what is the best way in ur opinion to curl ur hair and get it curly or wavy with a flat iron/ straightener. i have very straight hair naturally and have had friends do my hair curly adn it works best with a flat iron... i just don't know how to do it myself

oh, and what brand is the flat iron, there are so many, i would never be able to pick- preferably under 30$

thanxs :)Best way to get curly hair with flat iron?
Try the Conair flat iron. My hair is naturally curly but somtimes I like to heat style it and curl it to give it a more polished look. Now, i used to use this product called Miss Cool but it is now discontinued so I need a good setting lotion! When i do my hair i blow dry it then flat iron it and curl it with a curling iron! However that process makes my hair flat and not able to hold a curl! Maybe i should not flat iron it or maybe i should just concentrate on the top part of my hair? So anyway i just want to know what method you all use to create those pretty curls! I like ringlests and soft curls. How can i get curls in my hair to stay? I have become pretty good at styling hair for the simple fact that if I wasn't my hair would be nuts. My problem is that it takes a lot of time to do anything with my hair because to flat iron or curl it with a curling iron or hot curlers or anything i have to blow dry it relatively straight first or it won't work out. I have given up on the idea of curling my hair because it is a waste of my time. I have hot rollers but I can't get the curls tight enough to stay in for long, they are okay. I have a curling iron and that only does so much because my hair falls out again anyway. i try to use a lot of hairspray but my hair looks like plastic and silly. I've tried pin curling with no luck. My aunt recently did my hair with a flat iron and it worked pretty good I'm seriously considering to use a flat iron to curl my hair but I need opinions from someone with the same problem. It's of medium texture, not coarse but not super soft either. It's cut into a sort of shag that's layered all different lengths all over with the shortest layer at my chin. For some reason, it doesn't hold a curl. I have tried curling irons, hot rollers, regular rollers, putting it up in little buns, curling it when it's not washed, all to no avail. When I use a curling iron I spray it with good quality hairspray first and then curl it (I've tried all different sized barrel curling irons). I get a decent curl for about two minutes and the it starts falling out until I just get sort of a weird flip at the end. In the mean time I don't touch it or anything, it just does it by itself. I've tried both rolling my hair with the curling iron and winding my hair around the barrel. Both produce the same result. I've also tried using a flat iron to curl it with worse results than the curling iron.

Same thing with any kind of rollers, even if I sleep in them.

I scrunch my hair to bring out the waves all the time but this gives more of a messy wavy look than a good curl. (By the way, for some reason with me, scrunching my hair with a diffuser makes the wave fall out rather than adding to it. Anyone know why that is?)

Anyone know why this is? (thats the best one. ;D)

You wait 5 mins then your ready. you take about 2 inches of your hair and push the rest back in a pony tail.

Then you take the curling iron, open it,put it at the tipppittiptip bottom part of your hair and you roll i up. (either wayy. But it will come out differtn depedning on which way you do it. if you do it in you get curls on the inside and if you do it out you get them flipped outward.) So you turn the curling iron and roll it up to the top of the hair (not to your head so you dont burn yourself) and you hold it there for about 2-3 minutes. So you do that all around your head. Always hold it for AT LEAST 2 mins or it wont stay all day. Dont brush it afterwards just let them fall. And you may want to spray it with hairspray to make it spray more. Then your done. ;DD

Hope i helped.Curling iron ??
Totally its so easy once you get the hang of it....... you just take the clippy thing on the end of a good size strand of hair then you just twist it up for 10 seconds then feel the hair to make sure its hott enought then.... while you are still holding it twist the curling iron so it faces straight up and down then gentley pull it down while you hair is still attached to the clippy thing and voila CURL
take small pieces of ur hair and wrap it around the curling iron. when ur wrapping it around u take the curling iron and attach it 2 the end of the hair and start 2 twirl from the bottom up. keep it in 4 about a minute each . if u want the curls 2 be like perfect u should straighten ur hair 1st. if u want the style 2 last really long then u need 2 put hair spray. IF UR USING HAIRSPRAY MAKE SURE THE BOTTLE IS AT LEAST A FOOT AWAY. if u hold it up 2 close then ur hair will b a sticky mess
you tube has a lot of tutorials. check it out.
ok i hope that this video helped you as much as it helped me
if you want spiral curls you can use hot rollers and put them in vertically or if you have a barrel curling iron you have to manually wrap ypur hair around and maybe use some hold spray and hold for about 8 seconds and if you have spiral rollers you can put these in after you use the curling iron at night and they should curly in the morningPinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12362527241024548829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5469353385056160477.post-87515662344718397912010-08-21T01:07:00.001-07:002010-08-21T01:07:23.514-07:00How do you curl your hair?In a week I will be going to a dance, and this is like the middle school prom-- kind of a big deal!!! It takes a little more time, but they'll last all day, and be tight and spiral-y. You can tear up an old tee-shirt, thin kitchen towel, or even use paper bags cut into strips. You want them about an inch or an inch and a half wide, and 4-5 inches long. Dampen your hair (you can use a setting lotion, too, or spritz your damp hair with spray gel) and roll it up around the fabric or paper (fabric's way easier to sleep on). When you get to your scalp, tie the strip across the curl in a single knot. The bigger the sections of hair you roll, the bigger the curls will be. In the morning, un-tie the rags, and unroll your hair. Use a wide-toothed comb to style.
yea you can use a flat iron...start fairly close to the scalp (but not close enough to accidentally burn it), clamp the iron closed and turn it back on itself a half turn. run the iron slowly down the hairshaft to the end.the slower you move the iron, the tighter the curl... or just use mousse and scrunch. :)
Try using Straighteners it you have them? i use them and just take little sections of your hair that's how i curl my hair and it works really well, hope this helped
i would get a smaller curling iron because if you have a big one then you will obviously get big curls so go buy a smaller one at target (:
hair bands

low cost web hosting
Pinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12362527241024548829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5469353385056160477.post-50845947718146090452010-08-21T01:06:00.001-07:002010-08-21T01:06:19.936-07:00How to straighten hair without chemicals or flat iron?is there a way to straighten hair without a flat iron, chemicals, or blow dring hair with a curling brush. the blow drying thing doesn't seem to work for me... any ideasHow to straighten hair without chemicals or flat iron?
Try using a paddle brush and when you hold the dryer hold it so it points down toward the floor. that usually works for my friend.:) hope i helpedHow to straighten hair without chemicals or flat iron?
I'm no hair expert, but the only way I can think to straighten hair without using those things is to be born with straight hair.
hahahhaa is this a serious question? nope. the onlt way is to either have it permanently straightened or use flat irons and such. sorry babe. i wish there was tooPinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12362527241024548829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5469353385056160477.post-5822846069713287582010-08-21T01:06:00.000-07:002010-08-21T01:06:03.477-07:00Amika hair iron... how to curl?Ok, so I just bought the Amika flat iron (the one that also curls) at the mall. I straightened my hair (AWESOME!) and it's just as great as when the girl showed it to me. One small problem... the girl put this really awesome curl in my hair in like two seconds, and I want to curl my hair all over. I can't figure out how to use it to curl! The directions for curling are brief, uninformative, and I just can't seem to get it. Anyone have good directions, or a website with help/info/photos for curling?

Thanks!

ps- yes, it is worth it, for anyone who has considered purchasing one ;)Amika hair iron... how to curl?
difficult to describe, but ill take a shot at it. there are quite a few ways, but try this one. take the section you want to curl and comb it smooth and away from your head *sideways*. hold the iron a few inches away from you scalp with the hair between the iron. wrap that piece around one side of the iron. now close your iron and twirl/pull it away it, unspinning the hair your wrapped around the iron. you need to wrap and twirl the hair in the same direction or there will be this horrible kink in it where the curl begins. troll youtube and you'll find hundreds of video's n how tos if you're looking for other techniques, i just gave you the one i find to be the easiest. Forewarning, USE THERMAL PROTECTANTS! flat irons are hot, like center of the sun hot and can fry hair in a flash, a thermal spray wont cause any grief and itll save your hair. please invest in one especially if your playing around learning curls, as the hair stays in contact with the iron for a much longer time then basic flat ironing. Im not trying to scare you, just warn you that if you hold the iron in one spot for too long, it WILL damage your hair. use a good thermal spray like reken fabricate or spray starch or hot sets, or matrix sllek look flat iron spray. hunt around, you'll be able to find one on sale somewhere, but please please please dont muck about with out one.Pinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12362527241024548829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5469353385056160477.post-4778220904761443152010-08-21T01:05:00.002-07:002010-08-21T01:05:47.562-07:00Curling my hair with a curling iron pleaseeeeee help!!?so i recently bought the 1'; hot tools curling iron and i watched a lot of videos on youtube on how to curl your hair but all the girls start off with pin straight hair .. do they straighten their hair prior or do they blow dry it or do they just have naturally straight hair? i have wavy, frizzy, poofy hair .. i have really really stubborn kinks at the top of my head but then they straighten out at the bottom .. should i straighten my hair before curling it with a curling iron or blow dry or what? also what products should i use .. another thing is that my curls ALWAYS fall out .. if i use a flat iron or curling iron .. i have THICK hair .. what should i do pleaseee help

thank you (:Curling my hair with a curling iron pleaseeeeee help!!?
try it both ways. for me since i have really thick hair. i wash and blow dry it then take pieces of my hair and curl it until the whole head is done. my hairs curly and thick and sounds like yours so i think it gives it much more volume. but straightened hair might work best for you

id just experiment

xCurling my hair with a curling iron pleaseeeeee help!!?
Take it back and buy the In-styler it does better with thick hair
buy a good buy and retirn da one yew have:P
okay, so my hair is kinda liked yours, but when i want to curl my i have it dry, not straight or anything, just normal ! so then i curl it, and then i use moose to help keep the curls in and then i hair spray it, lots of hair spray

hope it helped!
after you get out of the shower, blow dry your hair straight...dont straighten it! that will confuse your hair :) after you blow dry it straight, get some extra hold hair spray and while your hair is being curled hairspray it. hold your hair around the barrel for 10-15 sec. make sure and only get 1 inch sections in the barrel at a time so it will help them stay. after you're done, spray all your hair lightly. this works for me as i have the same problem. good luck!
straighten it first or put a serum on or like a anti-frizz OR lol uhmm if u have straight hair from ur roots then u dont have to because ur curling the bottom half of your hair. Hope it helped%26lt;33
never ever straighten your hair, and then curl it. It burns it like crazy! Just do this- when you curl your hair up in the curling iron, before you release, spray that curl with hairspray, and then release. do that to all of your hair. If your still worried about it falling out, do an extra coat of hairspray on the whole thing. Its a lot of hairspray, but it works.. :)
you should use some ani-frizz cream on your hair when its wet so it will be a little but more tame.

then you should get some heat-resistance spray so you don't totally fry your hair

put that on it, then blow dry with a brush.

after its totally dry, put some more of the heat spray on and then curl it.

your hair doesnt have to be straight, but its hard to manage if its really frizzy and kinky. so go to wal mart or something and just get some shampoo and cremes to help with that :]Pinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12362527241024548829noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5469353385056160477.post-85744294157485505862010-08-21T01:05:00.001-07:002010-08-21T01:05:32.863-07:00How to curl hair with a straightener? How do i curl my hair with my flat iron? How to curl hair with a straightener?
I found this video-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dbk_gGCh8鈥?/a>How to curl hair with a straightener?
Place the flat iron at the root of your hair, pull it all the way down, then curl it back up.
