Curling your hair with flat iron?! ?

i was on youtube, and found all these videos like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iwZ9uP_3


telling me how to curl my hair with a flat iron, but in all of the videos (that I've seen) they are using a 2'; flat iron. I have like a 3 inch (not sure... But it’s a lot bigger than the 2'; ones) or 4'; flat iron, and I was just wondering if I can still use this technique to curl my hair?

They all have an 1 inch. 2 inch makes really, really loose curls. Curling your hair with flat iron?! ?
They're all using 1'; ones and there are no such things as 3 or 4'; ones, that would be too wide.
