How do i get my hair to hold a curl?

my hair will not hold a curl. it will fall right out unless i drown it in hairspray. i don't like the hair spray feeling and i want big soft curls with a curling iron....or flat iron. i dont careHow do i get my hair to hold a curl?
Is your hair layered? The more layers in your hair the more curl and shape you will have. This applies to both long and short layers.

If you have short hair use a 1-inch barrel curling iron (For longer hair use a slightly bigger curler). Make sure that when you curl it you take the curling iron to the end of the hair piece, you don't want pieces flipping out.

Taking medium pieces, slowly begin with your first piece. Make sure that the hair is evenly distributed across the iron. Hold it for a couple seconds or however long you like. Now, when you want to finish off the curl, don't uncurl the iron, slightly open the iron and let the hair fall out. Hold out your hand to catch the curl so that when you catch it, it's in a tiny ball. You can take a bobby pin and clip it your head, doing that to all of your curls. When you're done your entire head, gently take them out and spray with hairspray! It works good for some, but not all.

Also on Youtube there is a girl who can show you all of this stuff and its really helpful!

Just type in : Michelle Phan or Rice Bunny

try puttn sum gel, cuz i had the same problem, and also wen u get ur curl, roll it back up wit ur hand and bobby pin it, do that wit all ur curls till they cool down, spray a lil holding spray and then take them out. if that didnt make any sense just go 2 youtube and they have tutorials, hope i helped:)
aussie catch the wave mouse when hairs wet or some light gel just a little when hairs wet blowdry, and it sounds weird but i works for my my aunt(shes 100 percent japanese pin strait hair) un washed hair so dont wash it for a day and it will work good to and you may need a good curling iron too.
